Project Description
Golder – on behalf of Development Victoria – engaged Grange Environmental to undertake demolition and remediation works, including recycling of non-contaminated C&D waste.
Scope of works:
- Subcontract engagement.
- Demolish and recycle all hardstand onsite & remove all below ground infrastructure.
- Detailed earthworks to remove and dispose all contaminated soils onsite as per current EPA guidelines.
- Remediate existing service trench (previously backfilled by others) back to natural ground and reinstate to facilitate construction under level 1 GITA supervision.
- Reuse and blending of site soils in combination with market fill and reinstate site to design levels.
- Final trim and grade to design tolerances.
- Handover of site back to Development Victoria for the construction phase.

Project Delivery:
The site at 541 Sydney Road had been dormant for several years following preliminary building and service demolition works by others. Grange was engaged to remedy the unfinished works and dispose of the remainder of contaminated fill material in accordance with EPA regulations. Grange was successful at sourcing local fill material compliant with the site technical requirements through the wet winter period while staying within the client’s tight budget. Over 2,000t of contaminated soils were sent treatment and reuse to an EPA licensed offsite facility. Future construction at the site will produce much needed government housing for single parents and those in need of assistance – due to commence early 2023.
